The Commute Compass

The 3D arc map shows where every individual commute happens. This view abstracts away location entirely and asks a different question: in which direction, and over what distance, does the workforce actually move? Each wedge is a compass bearing computed from every home → work pair in the filtered dataset; its length is total jobs (S000) and its colour is the average commute distance for that direction.

Directional flow — jobs by compass bearing

Hover a wedge for its stats. Radius = total jobs · colour = average distance
Shorter avg. commute
Mid-range
